At Lightwoods Primary School we put great effort into communicating with our parents/carers about all aspects of school life.
Parents are invited in to classes to share childrens’ learning on a particular topic or whole school initiative on a regular basis.
We hold termly assemblies to celebrate the talents of our children and their successes during the term.
We have an open door policy and encourage parents to talk to us about any concerns they have about their child.
We hold a parents evening once every term so that parents/carers are able to meet the teacher and talk about their child’s progress and next steps within class. It is also an opportunity to view the school environment and all of the amazing work the children complete throughout the term.
Each class prepare a termly curriculum information leaflet which gives parents detailed information about what their children will be learning.
All classes have a secure Twitter account that parents can follow which shares the childrens learning journey in school. This is also a great communication tool when children are on residential and day trips to share their experiences.
These newsletters are prepared to share with parents all the exciting things that happen in our school but also detail about progress that we make to continually improve our school.
The weekly newsletter gives information on up and coming events and important diary dates. This information is sent to parents/carers via e-mail or paper, depending on preference.
Our parents and pupils have access to a secure area of our portal to view detailed information about how to support their child’s learning in the core areas of the curriculum. All communication to parents is also available to download from this site.
Parent Leaflets and Workshops
We have prepared parent progress booklets for English, Maths and Reading. We also hold regular workshops in school to share our practice and give guidance where appropriate.
We are always looking to improve our communication and welcome feedback from parents. Surveys are sent out to gather views on a range of topics so that we can look at areas to improve.
Leaflets are available to complete electronically or by paper copy to compliment or comment on any aspect of our school.
Parent View gives you the chance to tell us what you think about your child’s school.
Parent View asks for your opinion on 12 aspects of your child’s school, from the quality of teaching, to dealing with bullying and poor behaviour. If your child is at a boarding or a residential special school, it also asks for your opinion on five aspects of your child’s boarding or welfare. We will use the information you provide when making decisions about which schools to inspect, and when.
When inspecting education in independent schools, we recommend when inspection should take place but inspect at the request of the DfE.
