Physical Education at Lightwoods Primary School is a key contributor to the development of the children.

Children have two P.E lessons per week and experience a diverse programme of activities. Starting from Early Years we focus on fundamental movement skills (agility, balance and co-ordination). The curriculum covers areas such as gymnastics, dance, tennis and multi skills.

As well as curriculum P.E, we offer an extensive extra-curricular programme using specialist staff and external providers. Recently, we have introduced new activities such as netball and boogie bounce.

The school participates in the Sandwell school’s games competitions on a regular basis. This year, we have had particular success in the south Sandwell gymnastics competition - coming away with 1st place - and then in our south Sandwell basketball competition coming 2nd place.

The children have also competed at football, tag rugby, tri golf and cricket events. The year 5 and 6 boys represented Lightwoods at The Centre Spot football tournament held at Pulse, Wednesbury.

Entering events offers our high attaining pupils the opportunity to develop their skills further. Additionally, we attend events to increase participation through our inclusive ethos.
