Please note this is a guide of what children will be doing in school, there is no requirement for all of these tasks to be completed each day! Timings are just a guide, do what suits you and your child each day.

  • Task: Discuss and Respond–  Why have all the children started to bring different types of sandwiches like Carla? Why does Carla choose an ordinary peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the end? Can you recall the whole story by completing a storyboard for it.

Maths

This week has been all about measuring in different ways.  Can you measure how long your bedroom is? Can you measure how much water you use in a bath? Can you measure how heavy a cake is? Can you measure how tall each person in your household is?  Put photos on twitter showing off your measuring skills.

Spelling Practice

Summer term week 5 – air/are

Use each of this weeks spellings in a sentence.  Remember to use capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and neat handwriting.

English

Hopefully, you’ve had a go writing some detailed instructions for making your sandwich! Now, let’s get really creative! Can you design, a sandwich for one of the following characters or choose a character of your choice:-

It is time to write your sandwich instructions for your chosen character! You can use the uploaded template if you wish.

  1. Don’t forget to include what is needed and be imaginative with the ingredients.
  2. For the main instructions, make sure you use time conjunctions (time words) like First, Next, Then, After that, When that’s done, Finally.
  3. Use bossy verbs like cut, grate, spread, chop, sprinkle, mash, dice.
  4. Add detail: - The pirate might like salty seaweed and chewy squid tentacles in his sandwich! The princess might enjoy fluffy candy floss and a drizzle of sweet honey in her sandwich.
  5. Don’t forget to name your masterpiece sandwich!

Lunch Break

Phonics

Read phase 2, phase 3 and phase 5 sounds.

Pick a sound from phase 3 or 5. Make a list of as many words as you can with that sound in. Can you write 3 sentences using words that contain your sound.

Alternative activity – make up a nonsense name for an alien by using unusual combinations of phonemes. Draw the alien too.  Share on Twitter so we can read your alien names.

Following watching the story Carla’s Sandwich, can you think about what Carla says in the end..

“I like to be different.”

How are you different from your friends or family members? Think about talents you have that no one else has, or interests you have that are different to others. Being different, makes you special and unique. Draw a picture of yourself and the things that make you different. Write a sentence along with it too.
