It is VE Day on Friday this week. Leading up to this important day, we would like you to think about the meaning of bravery. What is bravery? Can you think of a time when you had to be brave? Why is being brave important? We also will be doing some work around other brave people like Captain Tom Moore! Can you find out who he is if you don’t know already?

But first…. Watch this story ‘Tomorrow I’ll be Brave’ by American author Jessica Hische

You can view the story here.

  • Think about and discuss the meaning of the following words; adventurous, brave, strong, smart, curious, creative and confident. Think and discuss what these words mean to you. Have you ever been any of those things?
  • There are posters with these special words. Decorate the word, draw a picture of yourself displaying that characteristic, for example, on the ‘Brave’ poster you can draw yourself doing something where you had to be brave; jumping into a swimming pool for the first time, or riding your bike without stabilisers, or sleeping in your bedroom on your own for the first time.
  • Underneath your decorated word, write a sentence explaining what you are doing in your drawn picture. For example, you could write; ‘I was brave when the dentist checked my teeth and I sat very still in the dentist’s chair.’ (Can you use ‘and’ to add detail to your sentence?)

Complete one or a few of the posters each day and don’t forget to share! 😊
