Topic- Science Hygiene This is a good time to start talking to children about hygiene. Although we hadn’t reached this topic we have spoken to the children about this a lot especially due to the current circumstances. Discuss with your child what germs are and that you can’t see germs. Explain to your child that germs can make people unwell. A great activity to show how germs spread involves placing children’s glitter glue (hand sanitiser and glitter or Vaseline and glitter) on their hands and pretend that the glitter is germs. The children will touch their face, objects and someone else to see how quickly germs can spread, then ask the children to wash their hands to see how washing hands using soap and warm water helps to get rid of most of the germs if not all. Activity 2- Investigation. Get 4 pieces of bread and 4 clear plastic food bags. Carefully place one piece of bread inside a bag. Be very careful not to touch the bread very much -finger tips on the edges. Choose 3 places in your home to wipe the other slices of bread – table top, toilet seat, door handle etc. Label each bag and carefully put the slices of bread inside.
