Reading

Listen to ‘The Magic Box’ by Kit Wright. To watch click here.

Activity: Perform your poem to an audience or film it to upload to Twitter or send it to a family member to cheer them up. Think about:

  • When are you going to pause? (this is usually after a comma and longer pauses after a full stop)
  • What expression are you going to use?
  • Are you going to read particular parts fast or slow?
  • What facial expressions might you use to make the performance interesting?
  • Are you going to use hand gestures to exaggerate particular words?
  • Try not to fidget when reading your poem.
  • Don’t put the paper in front of your face.
  • Speak loud enough and clear enough for people to hear every word.
  • Practise makes perfect.

And finally enjoy your poem and your performance.

Maths

White Rose Maths have stopped their free online worksheets. You can still access the videos for free. If you would like to carry on with those, click here.

Alternatively, The Oak National Academy are providing free online learning videos, quizzes and activities. I have chosen lessons which cover aspects of the Year 2 curriculum we know the children need to recap. Click here to take you to the lesson on rotating shapes. You will need a pen, paper/book and a ruler (if you have one) to complete this lesson.

Fun extras – Can you use your LEGO or DUPLO to make a pattern like the ones in the video using 4 blocks, rotating them in a pattern.

English

After a long few days at Edgmond Hall your teachers are usually VERY tired and may even let you watch a movie when we return to school. Write a letter to your teacher persuading them to pick the film of your choice.

You need to include:

  • Why we should watch it in school
  • What your favourite part is
  • What the main ideas in the story are
  • Why would it be suitable for the whole class to watch

Why won’t any other film do.

CURRICULUM

Topic - Computing – Dance Moves

This activity is from the following website: https://www.barefootcomputing.org/homelearning

Today we are going to be dance instructors and are going to make up a dance routine for others in the family to follow. Have some fun by establishing some dance moves to add to your dance routine (this could simply be a jump/spin/wave or more complex floss/dab). Ensure you all know what each dance move is and that you have a card/picture/painting or action figure to represent the move. Create multiple copies of each card so that you can repeat the dance move.

Place a sequence of cards/pictures/paintings/action figures that represent your dance moves into a row to follow the instructions to make your dance routine. Explain that changing the order of the cards will change the order of the routine.

Put some funky music on and get dancing. Encourage child/children to test their different algorithms (pattern/sequence) by following the routine themselves first.

Once they are happy with their sequence (algorithm) invite family member to have a go. You could film your dance routine and send it to a family member to cheer them up.
