Please note this is a guide of what children will be doing in school, there is no requirement for all of these tasks to be completed each day! Timings are just a guide, do what suits you and your child each day.

Read your reading book!

  • Activity: Predict what is going to happen next in the book that you’re reading. Using your prediction, write the next part of the story. 

You might want to use the Reading Activity sheet provided to record today’s learning and for the rest of the week!

Complete Day Four’s activities from the ‘Fluent in Five’ pack. As an adult to check your answers, using the answer sheet provided!

Your task is to continue with the learning journey that we started last week, this includes watching the virtual lessons and completing the activities. You will need to press the 'next activity' button to advance the lesson.

Spelling Practise

Practise writing 10 of the Year 5/6 statutory spellings, using cursive handwriting.

This week, we are continuing with our unit ‘The City of Silence’

For today’s learning, we are going to edit and improve yesterday’s descriptive paragraph by adding in figurative language.  

Watch the videos on the three different types of figurative language, and how to know the difference between literal and figurative language. Complete the quiz to check your understanding. 

Go back over yesterday’s descriptive paragraph and add in at see if there is anywhere that you could add hyperbole, similes or metaphors to improve your writing.

Reading Comprehension:

  • Read the Stormzy reading comprehension and answer the questions. Check your answers once you’ve finished.
See the attachment for differentiated texts. Use the stars at the bottom on the page to know the difficulty. One star is the simplest up to three stars which is the most challenging.

  • Complete Activity 13 of your City of Silence Unit: Artistic Challenge. Here you will need to get creative and draw and paint your imaginary setting.
  • To help with this and maybe learn something new, see if you can find an online tutorial of how to draw the type of setting that you are aiming for. Here are just two that I found that could have been useful:
